Title
Medieval nail cleaners
Description
English: A copper alloy artefact, possibly a nail cleaner from a cosmetic set dating from 1400-1500AD. It is in the form of an elongated triangle tapering to a sharp tip. The broad end of the tool has the remains of some form of attachment loop, probably by means of a rivet, which is now missing. The artefact is undecorated, although one side has a slight groove at the tip. It weighs 3.58g and measures 55.1mm in length, 9.1mm in width and 2.2mm in thickness. An example of a 15th century cosmetic set is illustrated in 'Medieval Artefacts' by Nigel Mills, page 100, number 263.
