Title |
Medieval lead seal matrix |
||
Description |
English: Medieval lead seal matrix, flat without handle or lug. Pointed oval, 35 x 26mm. Quatrefoil. + · S’ · IOhANIS DE MILD (Seal of John de Mild) The letter N is retrograde. The DE (=of) is probably a mistake by the engraver and should read LE (= the), that is, for a personal name, rather than a place name such as Milden or Mildenhall. (Reaney and Wilson 1991, 309). |
