Title
Medieval lead disc brooch
Description
English: A lead alloy nummular brooch which dates to the late Anglo-Saxon period. The brooch is a flat circular disc with a diameter of 39.1mm, and is a maximum of 11mm thick including the pin fittings. There is an area missing from one edge. The front of the brooch is decorated in relief with three concentric circles round the edge, then a band decorated with raised circles, then two concentric circles, a band decorated with depressed ovals and the centre is divided into quadrants with a projecting boss in the very centre. The reverse is plain. There is a double lug pin attachment with iron staining and a curved-over catch, but the pin is missing.

Nummular brooches are ultimately based on coin designs, and date to the 10th or 11th centuries AD.
