Medieval lead alloy papal bulla of Honorius III
Description
English: A Medieval lead alloy Papal bulla of Pope Honorius III (AD1216-1227). The obverse depicts the head of St Peter to the right and St Paul to the left; with SPA SPE above, SPA is an abbreviation of Sanctus Paulus for St Paul and SPE an abbreviation for Sanctus Petrus for St Peter. There is a beaded border around the heads, representing the aureole (halo) and there is a further pelleted border around the edge of the motif and inscription. The reverse has the inscription "HONO/RIVS/PPIII" there is an omega above 'PP'. This seal is from Pope Honorius III, PP is an abbreviation of Pastor Pastorum, Shepherd of the shepherds. This seal has one cord hole extending along the vertical axis, it has created a ridge on the obverse.
