Medieval jetton of the Duchy of Guelders
Description
English: A copper-alloy Medieval jetton of the Duchy of Guelders struck under the rule of Mathilde de Gueldre, c.1371-1379 AD. As Mitchiner, 1988: no. 790 but with 'M' instead of crowns on reverse legend.

Obverse: Alternating crowns and M's in legend; A shield bearing the rampant lion with forked tail of Limburg-Guelders, within double stranded sexfoil, all within an inner circle.

Reverse: 'Annulet M M Annulet' in each quadrant of the legend; A double-stranded arcuate cross fleurry divising the legend, a lion rampant in each angle of the cross, a lis at the centre of the cross, all within an inner circle.
