Title
Medieval iron barrel padlock case
Description
English: An iron case from a Medieval barrel padlock. The case has been treated with a copper-alloy casing on the surface and some linear decoration is visible through the ferrous corrosion. The lock case is a large example, at 107 mm long and 45.5 mm wide. It is hollow and sub-oval in section. Other examples are illustrated in Egan (e.g. 1998, 97; 251). The lock probably dates from the 13th to 14th centuries.
