Title
Medieval iron barrel padlock
Description
English: An incomplete medieval iron barrel padlock. The fragment includes the circular 'cap' end and part of the internal mechanism. The cylindrical outer casing and locking arm are now missing. The remaining internal spring mechanism comprises three rectangular slots or arms; two are set parallel to one another, while the third appears to be set at a right angle to the other two. The three arms extend beyond the circular cap and curve to form a loop of three arms.

Examples illustrated in Egan (1998:92-93) dates these to the 13th to 15th centuries AD. For a similar example see PAS reference BH-94A132.
