Medieval double oval shoe buckle - front
Description
English: Copper-alloy double oval buckle of probable late 14th-15th C. date. Each side of the buckle is roughly D-shaped and has undecorated bilobed edges. The outer frame has opposing bulges with notches for the pin to rest in. The central bar shows iron staining from a pin. The reverse on the piece is plain, with further iron traces. The buckle is slightly angled upwards from the central bar. Measures 29.2mm long, by 22.5mm wide at the widest point and 20mm wide at the central bar, by 2.4mm thick. Weight = 3.26g.
