Title
Medieval double oval buckle
Description
English: A copper-alloy buckle of medieval date. A double oval buckle and plate, which, it suggested, dates from c. 1350 - 1650 AD (Whitehead, R; 1996; "Buckles 1250 - 1800; Greenlight Publishing; pp. 53). The frame has two D-shaped loops, is semi-circular in section, and has a central axis bar. Wrapped around this bar is a double folded sheet metal plate. This is slightly damaged on one side and on the undamaged side has a rounded terminal. The two sides of the plate were originally held together by four copper-alloy rivets, three of which survive in-situ. A cut out pin slot is located at the axis bar end. The pin is missing. Overall, the buckles measures 37.3mm long by 19.7mm high and 5mm thick. It weighs 6.05g.
