Medieval double loop asymmetrical trapezoidal buckle.
Description
English: Medieval cast copper alloy buckle, c.1350-1450. Large heavy-duty asymmetrical double loop trapezoidal buckle with separate strap and pin bars; frame rectangular sectioned with outer edge & sides of frame bevelled on the outside; notch for cast copper alloy pin on the strap bar. Length 30.7mm, width at outer edge 37.7mm, width at inner edge 31.1mm, max thickness (across pin loop) 7.26mm, thickness across outer edge of frame 5.0mm, weight 20.90g. See Whitehead 1996 (‘Buckles 1250-1800’, Greenlight) p.88 no.s 546-7 for similar buckles.
