Title
Medieval copper alloy single loop buckle
Description
English: An incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy single loop D shaped buckle dating to c.1350-1450. The buckle frame is D shaped with a narrowed, offset strap bar though the frame is damaged and missing a section. There is a notched lip at the centre of the frame loop which is bevelled with a flat reverse. There is a sheet copper alloy plate attached to the strap bar; there is a slot in the damaged folded edge where the pin would have been located and a single copper alloy rivet at the attachment end. The frame and plate has a dark green patina. The frame measures 17.37mm in length, 16.05mm wide and 2.28mm in thickness. The plate measures 13.07 in length, 20.34mm wide and 3.36mm thick. The total width of the buckle is c.32.68mm. It weighs 3.1g.

Whitehead (2003) page 75, No 21, shows a similar buckle which he suggests dates from c.1350-1450.
