Title
Medieval copper alloy buckle and plate
Description
English: Copper alloy clasp and plate. The clasp is of the 'Kings head' type, and in this case depicts a crownless head as viewed from above. The attachment bar end of the clasp is decorated with transverse ribbing depicting the hair-line. The forehead is visible after that as a broad undecorated section. There are two eyes represented by circular holes either side of a large moulded nose. The lip of the mouth forms the perimeter at the top, and just inside of it there is another thin band of ribbing, perhaps representing a moustache. The plate is an undecorated flat sheet of copper alloy folded over the bar and riveted together at the attachment end.
