Medieval coin: continental coin from Brussels, Jan III
Description
English: A medieval silver coin; a continental coin (stirling imitation?) from Brussels, probably of Jan III the Victorious, Duke of Brabant (1312 – 1355). It has a diameter of 17.48mm, thickness 0.79mm, weight 1.18g. Ref. Vanhoudt G248. De Witte 307 (<a href="http://users.telenet.be/medievalcoins/Brabant.htm">http://users.telenet.be/medievalcoins/Brabant.htm</a>). Reference: J. Chautard, Imitations des monnaies au type esterlin frapées en Europe pendant le XIIIe et le XIVe siècle (Nancy, 1871), p.62, no.112 and Pl. IX, 9. Only two examples of this coin have been recorded on the pAs adatabase previously: LVPL-C97AA3 and CAM-CDDCD1
