Description |
English: A Medieval silver short-cross cut halfpenny probably of Henry II (AD1154-1189). The obverse shows a crowned head facing with five hair curls visible on the right. The obverse legend reads [RI]CVS.R. There is a pellet between the S and R and the pellet at the base of the sceptre is just visible before the cut. The reverse shows quatrefoils in the remaining two quarters. The reverse legend reads +W[...]ON.LVN with a cross pattee initial mark. This coin is a Class 1b1, dating to AD1180-1182. The moneyer is Willelm of London. The diameter is 17.2mm, thickness is 0.8mm, weight is 0.48g and die axis is 11 o'clock. |
