Title |
Medieval cast copper alloy single looped rectangular buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: Medieval cast copper alloy single looped rectangular buckle frame. The frame is rectangular in plan and oval in cross section with a transverse groove across the centre of the outer edge forming a pin rest within two raised bands. The buckle pin is missing. The upper and lower sides are very thin in comparison to the outer edge, and have three raised notches on their outer faces. The corner where the lower edge meets the strap bar has folded, distorting the buckle frame to a small degree. The buckle is 16.2mm long, 15.1mm wide, 4.8mm thick and weighs 1.99 grams. A similar example is illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991), p. 96, ref. 438, and has been assigned to the late fourteenth century. |
