Title
Medieval buckle plate or strap fitting
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy gilded buckle plate or strap fitting of the Medieval period (c.AD 1200-1400). The plate is flat and broadly rectangular, gradually expanding towards one end where it divides into two narrower rectangular plates with a hemispherical recess between them. The upper part of a circular-sectioned copper-alloy rivet is positioned adjacent to the recess in roughly the centre of the plate. There are small patches of gilding on the upper surface of the plate. The rest of this surface has a mottled light to mid green patination, as does the underside and rivet.

The plate measures 25.7mm long, a maximum of 22mm wide and 2mm thick. It weighs 3.78 grams.
