Title
Medieval buckle plate
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy buckle plate dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1200-1350.

The object consists of a folded sheet of copper alloy which has been pierced by five rivets, arranged in two pairs flanking a central rivet. One cylindrical rivet survives in position but the remaining four are now missing. The two external rivet holes are placed at the break, which has rendered them semi circular on one side. The sheet now forms a rectangular shape. Egan and Pritchard (1991: 77) illustrate a possibly similar example dated to their ceramic period 9, which relates to 1270-1350. They also illustrate (ibid: 110) examples dated to their period 7, which relates to 1200-1250. There are similar examples recorded on the database, incuding LIN-788B8B.
