Title |
Medieval buckle pin (possibly) |
||
Description |
English: A possible cast copper-alloy pin now independent of its frame, possibly from a medieval annular buckle although it is unusually large. It is solidly cast, with a cross-section in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. It narrows (from 7.45mm to 2.4mm) as it tapers to a pointed tip which is bent downwards slightly. The 'loop' is of unusual form and seemingly broken. It the same plane as the shaft it is sub square in form with incurved sides. It bends upwards before turning through a right angle. Beyond this the surviving edge is crudely curved. The size of this object points to this being an example of a buckle pin as opposed to a brooch pin. The metal is a dark red-brown colour and is now largely covered in mid-green corrosion product. |
