Title
Medieval buckle pin
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy pin now independent of its frame, probably from a medieval annular buckle. It is solidly cast, with a cross-section in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. The oval loop appears intact, simply moved apart, slightly to one side, freeing it from the frame. There is a simple rectangular ridge at the junction of the loop and the shaft. The pin tapers slightly to a squared off, blunted tip, recessed slightly on its underside. The object has now corroded to a mid-grey colour with some fine diagonal file marks. Similar examples of pins illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 115; fig. 75) date to around the 14th century AD.
