Title |
Medieval buckle pin |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper-alloy pin of Medieval date (c. 1250 - c. 1400), with an open oval loop at one end, which has become detached from an annular buckle or possibly a brooch. The pin is D-shaped in cross-section with a rounded top and narrows slightly throughout its length from the loop towards the tip. On the top of the shaft, near the the middle of the pin there is a raised moulding (rectangular in plan) consiting of two transverse raised lines. The pin is 48.5mm long including the loop, 6.5mm wide and 10.3mm thick; it weighs 9.46 grams. The size suggests this is a buckle pin rather than a brooch pin. Similar buckle pins with slight variations in the raised moulding from archaeological excavations in London come from contexts dated c.1250-1400 (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 115-116, fig. 75, refs. 541, 547 and 549). See also SUSS-329437. |
