Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: A cast copper alloy trapezoidal single loop buckle dating to the post medieval period c. AD 1700-1800.

Only the buckle frame survives, with the pin and original plate missing. The bar where the plate would have been attached is cylindrical in shape. The bar is marked by iron staining and is thickeened, suggesting that the iron plate and pin have corroded away and left their mark on the surviving copper alloy. The trapezoidal frame tapers outwards from the bar, rounding and narrowing at the corners to create the outer part of the frame. There is a spiked point projecting inwards towards the bar and plate, probably originally a pin rest.

MEASUREMENTS: 17mm length, 20mm width, 3.2mm width, weight 1.65g.
