Medieval buckle
Description
English: A complete copper alloy medieval buckle and buckle plate, dating from 1270 - 1400 AD.The frame is D shaped with a lip or triangular projection for the pin to rest on. The pin bar is offset, with a slight projection either end. The buckle plate is wrapped round the pin bar, with a circular notch for the pin. The plate recesses slightly at the pin bar. The pin is copper alloy wire which has been wrapped round the bar and plate, and has a light green patina. The plate is rectangular in shape, narrowing slightly towards the attachment end, where there is a circular rivet in the centre. The buckle and frame have a mid green patina, and measures 22.9mm in length, 12.1mm in width and 1.66g in weight.

A similar buckle can be seen in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 75, number 309.
