Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy medieval oval buckle dating from c.1330-1400 with integral forked spacer, the composite plates and pin are missing. The buckle frame is oval shaped, on the outer edge is a central triangular lip, in the centre of this is a shallow groove where the pin would have rested. The inside of the frame is bevelled, and it is sub triangular in cross section. The two prongs of the forked spacer project from the pin bar, one of which is now broken and worn. The remaining one is triangular shaped and pointed. There is a raised collar where the forked spacer begins, and the spacer is stepped in two square projections before narrowing into the prong. There is a central rectangular notch with a narrow bar inbetween the the two prongs where the pin would attach. There is no decoration on the buckle, and it has a light green patina, with patches of light brown staining. It measures 60.5mm in length, 31.8mm in width and 4.4mm in thickness. It weighs 7.73g.

Similar examples can be seen in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 79, numbers 322-324.
