Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy medieval buckle, dating from c. 1150-1230 AD. The buckle is single looped and has a D shaped frame, which widens on the outer edge, where there are two rounded knops. Between the knops in an incised groove for the pin to sit in, and an incised groove either side. the knops are decorated with incised cross hatching. The cross hatching continues across the the frame to the pin bar, which is slightly recessed. The pin is a piece of copper alloy wire that is wrapped around the pin bar, the pin is broken just after the loop in a worn break. The buckle has a dark green patina. The buckle measures 25.2mm in width, 20.2mm in length, and weighs 4.32g.

The buckle is similar to ones in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 77. See also Egan (2007) no. 792.
