Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete medieval copper alloy buckle with integral plate, missing the pin, dating to c. 1270 - 1350 AD. The frame of the buckle is trapezoidal shaped, with two raised lines and a groove in the centre of the outer bar for holding the pin. In the centre of the opposite edge of the frame is circular hole for the pin, the buckle plate then narrows and a raised ridge divides between the buckle and the plate. The plate is sub triangular in cross section, ending with a double moulded collar, and a bifoliate terminal. The terminal is worn. On the reverse is an intergral rivet that projects at ninty degrees - however this has been bent back towards the terminal end. The buckle has a light green patina. It measures 32.8mm in length, 13.5mm in width, and weighs 2.72g.

The buckle and plate is similar to one shown in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 106, number 483, however it was cast in lead.
