Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy, double looped 'spectacle' buckle dating to the Medieval period, circa AD1350-1650. The frame is worn but complete, but the pin is missing. The frame has a flat back and a concave front creating a D-shaped cross section. The front of the buckle has a small moulded knop decoration at either end of the central bar. The front of the buckle is otherwise undecorated although the surface is heavily abraded. Iron corrosion is present on the central bar and part of the frame indicating that the missing pin may have been made of iron. The reverse of the buckle is plain and undecorated. Length: 20.29mm. Width: 13.81mm. Thickness: 2.04mm. Weight: 1.62g
