Title |
Medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy 'lyre-shaped' strap end with an integral box chape and openwork terminal. The terminal comprises elaborate openwork of inverted M-shape with a lozenge-shaped terminal and side scrolls with four circular depressions on the outside edge of the frame. In the centreme is a bird (possibly an eagle). The box chape is rectangular in cross-section and has two rivet holes for attachment. The box chape has broken on the rear around the rivet holes. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The object has a light green patina. A similar example is no.218, p37, Whitehead, (2003). Similar examples which can be found on the database are NARC-E17E95 and NMS-799D01. |
