Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy buckle of the "spectacle" type dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1350-1500.

The pin is missing, but the frame survives. The frame is double looped, with two pointed oval loops which are convex in cross section. The frame is noticeably pointed at the upper and lower terminals, emphasising the pointed oval shape of the loops. There is also a thickening on the left hand loop to give the appearance of a pointed quasi-knop.

NCL-B49FBD is similar, as is CAM-9CE780. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 53, No.294) which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD, Egan and Pritchard (1991, 386) illustrate another very close example which has also be an date c.AD 1350-1400.

Measurements: 31.6mm length, 30.4mm width,  2.9mm thickness, weight 6.87g.
