Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: A complete copper alloy single loop circular buckle with central bar dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1350-1500.

The frame is rounded in cross sction and circular in form, athough the central bar is more flattened in cross section without a bevelled edge. File marks are visible on both the frame and the central bar. The pin is formed of a flattened strip of metal which is secured to the bar by wrapping. It tapers to a sharp point.

It is similar to NMS-0732E5, the record for which also notes file markings, and more locally to DEV-9C171E. Egan and Pritchard (1991: 65) no. 214 is similar. They describe this form of buckle as being commonly associated with the attachment of spurs, and date it to their ceramic phase 11, which equates to 1350-1400.

Measurements: 27.8mm length, 28.9mm width, 3.1mm thickness, weight 5.14g.
