Title
Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy single loop buckle with forked spacers for the attachment of a composite rigid plate dating to the medieval period, AD 1325-1375.

Only the frame and the forked spacer are present. The frame is oval in shape and flattened in cross section. It has a decorative triangular knop, although the point of the triangle is now worn. The spacers are rectangular in cross section, and taper to their breaks, which have removed the original sharp points. The point at which they join the frame is marked by a cross bar with a small drop shaped aperture just prior to the point of attachment.

Egan and Pritchard (1991: 79) describe a number of these buckles. DEV-F403F0 is a similar example from the database.

Measurements: 38.1mm length, 19.8mm width, 2.9mm thickness, weight 3.75g.
