Title
Medieval buckle: Single looped buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy single looped buckle dating to the medieval period. The buckle is roughly oval in plan and has a narrowed pin bar towards the back of the frame; the front, rounded section of the buckle frame has two knops projecting from the frame at 45 degrees, and in between these knops on the frame itself is a recessed moulding of three ribbed bars, arranged horizontally. The pin is missing. The reverse of the frame is flat and undecorated. This style of buckle is similar to those in Egan (2008:90-91), for example number 545, which is dated to the later 14th century AD.
