Title
Medieval buckle: Single loop buckle
Description
English: A complete copper alloy single looped buckle and plate dating to the medieval period. The buckle is D-shaped in plan and has indeterminate scrolled moulding either side of the pin rest. The integral strap bar retains the pin and the plate. The plate is formed by a single sheet of copper alloy, looped over the strap bar and being thinner on one side. The strap would have been held in place by two copper alloy rivets, which are retained. The plare is undecorated. This is a small example of a buckle current throughout the medieval period, c. AD 1250-1500.
