Medieval brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a medieval copper alloy annular brooch, dating from c. AD 1230-1260. The fragment consists of about half the brooch and is semi circular in shape, there is a worn break at either end. The surface of the brooch is decorated with incised writing, either side of this along the edge is an incised border. The brooch is worn with corrosion on the surface, the letters '[...] R V [...] VI' are visible. The reverse is undecorated. The fragment has a dark green patina, and measures 33.5mm in length, 17.1mm in width, 1.8mm in thickness and weighs 2.75g.

A similar brooch can be seen in Egan and Pritchard 1991 page 254, number 1336.
