Title
Medieval brooch; inscribed annular brooch
Description
English: Medieval brooch; cast copper alloy annular brooch of 14th century date with inscription. The brooch is a flat ring which narrows in one small section for form a pin bar. The pin is missing. The brooch is decorated on one face with large, individual letters, separated by areas of little wavy lines. The lines are mostly vertical but in some places are diagonal or horizontal. The lettering seems to be X POVERTY M', although the Y and M are unclear. Diameter 27.6mm, width of band 4.6mm, thickness 2.3mm, weight 3.61g.

Compare NCL-0F35E1 and SOMDOR-B53702, both of which have similar inscriptions.

Also compare the silver brooch in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 254-5, no. 1337), which was found in a context of c. 1350-1400.
