Title
Medieval brooch: Annular ring brooch
Description
English: A cast copper alloy annular brooch dating from the 13th or 14th century. The brooch has a lozenge-shaped cross-section with a constriction for the pin. The buckle frame is of twisted cable pattern (four twists), and within each twist is a line of granules. The pin is cone shaped and is long and thin with a sharp point. The pin is looped around the buckle frame and beneath the loop on the pin is a small rectangular panel that probably hides the join of the loop to the main body of the pin. This small panel is decorated with annulets. The brooch has been silvered or tinned; the gold of the underlying brass can be seen.
