Title
Medieval book fitting
Description
English: A small cast, copper-alloy, book clasp of late medieval to post-medieval date (c. AD 1450 - 1800). Formed of a small triangular plate with two rolled projections which hold a bar. Sections of the bar remain within them, patches of corrosion suggest that the bar was iron. The sides of the clasp curve into a narrow neck which tapers up from the plate, before widening out slightly to form a rounded end. At this end is a small circular indentation which may be evidence of a perforation, as on the under side of the clasp is a small stud. Some recorded clasps have remnants of studs corroded into these perforations. The clasp is thin in section, and undecorated. May fall into Howsam Type A.6.

Length 30.3mm, Width at base 20.1mm, Width 8.7mm,Thickness 1.3mm. Weight 3.05g
