Medieval barrel padlock: Padlock mechinism
Description
English: Part of an iron barrel padlock's internal mechanism, the cylindrical outer casing and locking arm are now missing. The remaining component is the spring mechanism, retaining the large rounded 'head' component and the internal strip and two spring strip locks. Examples illustrated in Egan (1998:92-93) dates these to the 13th to 15th centuries AD. For a similar example see PAS reference BH-94A132.
