Medieval barrel padlock: Locking mechinism
Description
English: Part of an iron barrel padlock's internal mechanism, the cylindrical outer casing and locking arm are now missing. The remaining component is the spring mechanism, retaining the large rounded 'head' component with loop continued from the two internal strips, which now only survive to a short length. Examples illustrated in Egan (1998:92-93) dates these to the 13th to 15th centuries AD. For a similar example see PAS reference BH-94A132.
