Medieval barrel lock
Description
English: An incomplete iron medieval barrel padlock dating to c.1200-1230 AD. The barrel lock consists of a circular disc plate (42.7mm in diameter), with two triangular shaped strips projecting at ninety degrees from the plate. One of the strips is longer and thicker and has a split spring extending from the terminal point. This one measures 68.2mm in length, 19.9mm in width, and 18.2mm in maximum thickness. The smaller strip measures 56.1mm in length, 10.4mm in width and 6.6mm in thickness. The iron is very corroded and rusted, and is a dark brown red colour. The barrel lock measures 80.1mm in length, 44.9mm in maximum width and weighs .
