Title
Medieval barb spring padlock (bottom)
Description
English: Incomplete copper alloy case of a barrel padlock of Medieval date. The hasp is broken and missing. The bolt is also missing. Length 40mm, maximum diameter 12mm, minimum diameter 9mm. Weight 8.73g. The barrel is roughly octagonal in cross-section. The lower three faces are decorated with curved lines of rouletted triangles. The other faces are irregular in size and undecorated. At the hasp end of the barrel the keyhole is “T” shaped. The other end of the barrel is slightly damaged but the remains of two square “spring holes” survive. Only a small portion of the hasp remains and immediately adjacent to it at the top of the barrel is a circular hole which is 2.2mm in diameter. The breaks are old.
