Medieval bar mount
Description
English: A complete cast copper-alloy bar mount from a strap with separate rivets, dating to the medieval period (c. 1350-c. 1400). The bar mount is hemispherical in cross-section with crudely incised decorative hatching over the entire central lobe; each terminal lobe is sub-circular and hemispherical in cross-section with a central circular rivet hole in each, holding a copper-alloy rivet. The underside is recessed in all three lobes, central and terminal.

The mount measures 18.34 mm long; 8.55 mm wide (at centre); 3.69 mm thick; and weighs 1.31g.

Several examples similar to this bar mount are illustrated in Egan (1991, 214; no. 1161) and are dated through ceramic association from c. 1350 to 1400. A particularly good parallel can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 23; no. 152).
