Title
Medieval annular buckle
Description
English: Medieval copper alloy circular buckle with pin.
The buckle is 39mm in diameter (internal 30.5mm) and circular in section. The pin is 44mm in length, 4mm wide and 4mm tall. In profile, it is similar to Egan no.541, although the ridged decoration is different. Here, it looks rather like a face with a high brow (horizontal ridge at one end) and triangular mouth at the opposite end, the space in between slightly angled away to either side from a central ridge.
The metal is dark grey/ green in colour and shiny where it has not worn away. There are tooling marks on the pin.
Weighs 14.54g. 13th/ 14th century in date.
Depicted place (County of findspot) Swindon
