Title
medieval annular brooch
Description
English: A complete but damaged medieval silver annular brooch, dating from c. 1230-1260 AD. The brooch has been broken into four pieces, and the pin is detached. There are four rosettes attached to the frame. The rosettes are made up of six petals and the central part of the flower. The ring is divided into four quadrants by the rosettes. Two sections of the frame are twisted for decoration, these would have been opposite each other. The pin would have attached to the frame with a solid loop with a collar The pin narrows, the sharp point has broken and is now missing. There is the remains of gold gilding on the frame and rosettes. The frame has been distorted out of the original shape. The frame measures 41.4mm by 35.1mm. The pin measures 23.6mm in length and 3.9mm in width. The brooch weighs 3.70g.

The brooch decoration is similar to Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 256, number 1343, which is dated to 1230-1260.
