Title
Medieval ampulla
Description
English: Medieval Lead ampulla, lugs squashed, ancient and recent damage in central part. On one face a very stylised scallop shell with almost straight ribbing, an extreme version of Spencer’s (1990) type II. The other face is worn: within a circle a possible reversed S (cf. ibid. 60, no.137, fig.88 no.179), although there is no sign of a hatched ground on this example. Length 53mm, width of lower part, which is undamaged, 24mm. This is unusually slender. Late 14th – early 16th century.
