Title
Medieval Tweezers
Description
English: Incomplete medieval copper alloy page-holder, most of folded handle missing, a sliding collar retains the two bent and broken arms, both with a damaged trapezoidal plate terminal, engraved interrupted rocker-arm decoration comprises a saltire between four short lines within a border on one face, the other face has a saltire between two outward-pointing arrows within a border. Width 20mm. Surviving length 27mm. Page holders occur on both lay and ecclesiastical sites (Biddle, M., Winchester, 1990, 756).

There is a marked bias in the distribution of Norfolk examples towards parishes with strong monastic associations: East Rudham (Norfolk Historic Environment Record number 41004), Great Dunham (NHER 45401), Flitcham with Appleton (NHER 52540), Horsham St Faith (NHER 35284), Pentney (NHER 35314), West Acre (NHER 3983 and 33660), Norwich (Greyfriars, NHER 845) and Wymondham (NHER 33069). Possible fragments have been found in Ashill (NHER 31587) and Attleborough (NHER 30098). 13th-14th century.
