Medieval Toilet Article (Earscoop and Nail Cleaner) |
||
Description |
English: 2011 T336: A near complete Medieval Silver ear scoop/nail cleaner. The item consists of a single sub-rectangular strip of silver with a small oval shaped spoon at one end forming an earscoop. Below this the sides, but not the faces, of the shaft have moulded decoration consisting of a raised ridge between two grooves. A short portion of the shaft is then plain and flat. The central part of the shaft is twisted in a spiral shape and then flattens out to form the plain pointed terminal for use as a nail cleaner. The item has been bent into a ring for possible secondary usage as a finger ring. There is some slight peripheral damage to the ends of both terminals.
The item has been dated to 14th Century (AD. c.1300-1400). |
