Title |
Medieval Strap End |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete medieval "lyre-shaped" tin-coated copper alloy strap end, all of the lower openwork end missing. The strap was secured in trapezoidal box or socket by a pair of iron rivets. The front face of the box is engraved with an upright trefoil with pointed leaves on a rocker-arm ground. There is a waist below the box and above two transverse grooves. Length >29mm. Width at attachment edge 23mm. Socket in cross-section 20 x 2.5mm. Fingerlin (1971) dates examples of this type and closely related buckles variously to between the second half of the 14th and the second quarter of the 15th century. |
