Title
Medieval Papal bulla
Description
English: An incomplete lead medieval Papal bulla probably dating to the period 1404 - 1492. The bulla is broadly semi-circular in plan and would have been ovular when intact. The bulla is split vertically along the line which the attachment cord would have run through when the bulla was intact. This is visible as a longitudinal groove on the obverse of the bulla. The obverse features the legent IN//CEN//PP indicating that it was issued by one of the Popes who took the name "Innocent", however, it is uncertain which one as the remainder of the inscription is lost. It is most likely to have been issued by one of the Popes Innocent VI - VIII. The reverse features a portrait of St Peter surrounded by a beaded border.
