Medieval Padlock
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Medieval Barrel Padlock. The incomplete heptagon-shaped case is damaged and torn along the top edge. The three underside faces of the case are each decorated with two rows of incised triangles. The sub-circular spring hole has two rectangular holes for the missing spring and bolt. The opposite end plate has a T-shaped key aperture (5.9x6.9mm) and the L-shaped arm is now bent at the tip. This type with the L-shaped arm has been classified by Goodall as Type C and is dated from 12th century to 16th century (Biddle, 1990, 1001). The length of the padlock case is 41.8mm, the height of arm and case is 23.26mm and the thickness of the case is 10.0mm and the weight is 12.21g.
