Title
Medieval Needle
Description
English: Probably medieval copper alloy needle with lozengiform head, pointed oval eye and shank of sub-rectangular cross-section in the upper part and round in the lower. The shank has been bent through more than 90 degrees just above the mid point. Length 69mm. Diameter 2.2mm. The eye 9 x 3mm. Slightly longer than, but otherwise very similar to an example from Freckenham, Suffolk, which was dated 600 - 1540 (SF-2CC700). Perhaps this piece should be given a slightly narrower date-range, 13th - 15th century.
